Vanuatu Situation Report #84 Issued 30 March - Covering 29-30 March 2022

SUMMARY AND DISEASE BURDEN

  • On 04 March 2022, an active COVID-19 case was confirmed at Vila Central Hospital who had no travel history, indicating transmission at community level.
  • On 07 March 2022, Efate and Offshore Islands moved to Alert Level 3: Very High, due to large-scale community transmission. All provinces of Vanuatu are on Alert Level 3 given reports of cases or movement of contacts of cases in the six provinces of Vanuatu.
  • A total of 3379 confirmed cases have been reported since the beginning of 2022.
  • 320 new confirmed cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, including 258 on Efate island (Shefa province) and 62 Santo island (Sanma province)
  • A total of six (6) people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 in VCH, with all 6 cases in stable condition. As of 29 March 2022, VCH reported 2 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19. One was a 22-year-old and another a 5-year-old; both people had pre-existing underlying medical conditions. Due to patient confidentiality, limited information can currently be released regarding these the two deceased people.
