What is Quarantine and Isolation?
Isolation and quarantine are standard public health measures taken to protect the public to stop or limit the spread of disease.
Quarantine
- Quarantine separates people who are well but may have been exposed to the virus to monitor if they become sick.
- It is a precautionary measure to ensure anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-19 does not get sick or accidently spread the virus.
- You must stay in a designated location and not leave to go to any other place.
- Family and friends will not be able to visit you.
- You must stay in quarantine for 14 days to ensure you do not develop any symptoms or become sick.
Isolation
- Isolation separates sick people from people who are not sick.
- It is often a precautionary measure. If someone meets the criteria for a suspected case, they will be tested.
- You must stay in a designated location and not leave to go to any other place.
- Family and friends will not be able to visit you.
- You must stay in isolation until you have clearance from a Doctor.
Why is quarantine and isolation important for the prevention of COVID-19?
By staying at a designated house or facility for the purposes of quarantine and isolation when requested, you can make a big difference in making sure COVID-19 is not able to spread in the community should it arrive in Vanuatu.
