Vanuatu receives 24,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX Facility

Port Vila, Vanuatu, 19 May 2021 - Today, Vanuatu joins Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Nauru, Tuvalu and Samoa, in the Pacific islands, to receive COVID-19 vaccine doses shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO. This is a historic step towards achieving the goal to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, in what will be part of the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history.

Ministry of Health Update on AstraZeneca Vaccine for COVID-19

12 March 2021, Port Vila: The Ministry of Health would like to provide an update to the public on the COVID-19 vaccine currently planned to be used in Vanuatu in 2021.

Vaccines reduce the risk of getting a disease by working with your body’s natural defences to build protection. When you get a vaccine, your immune system responds. Safe and effective vaccines are an important tool, in combination with other measures, to protect against COVID-19 and save lives.

Ministry of Health Reiterates Prime Minister’s Support for Frontline Workers

Port Vila, 17 November 2020: The Vanuatu Ministry of Health has reiterated the Prime Minister’s official statement yesterday, reemphasising the Government’s gratitude for COVID-19 frontline workers and the need for public support.

In a speech to the public on the evening of the 16 November, Prime Minister Bob Loughman appealed to the public to provide their ongoing support to frontline workers, including health workers, who are working to address COVID-19.

Health Alert: Ministry of Health confirms no additional COVID-19 cases to-date

16 November 2020, Port Vila: On 10 November 2020, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was detected during routine day 5 testing of an asymptomatic person in quarantine.

This first case remains in the isolation unit at the Vila Central Hospital with no symptoms, and will remain so until given health clearance for release.

Vanuatu Ministry of Health confirms first COVID-19 case in Quarantine

Port Vila, 11 November 2020: The Vanuatu Ministry of Health in support of the official statement of the Prime Minister confirms that on 10 November Vanuatu had their first confirmed case of COVID-19.

The National Disaster Management Office, the Ministry of Health and other key government partners are responding to the case and can assure the public that this is strictly a ‘border case’ which has been detected in quarantine.
