28,800 doses of Janssen COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Vanuatu

The Vanuatu Ministry of Health received 28,800 doses of the Johnson & Johnson or Janssen COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX facility. The single dose COVID- 19 vaccine is prioritised by the Ministry for remote, difficult to reach locations where roll out of the two-dose vaccines are challenged due to access issues and low population densities.

  • Two passengers who arrived to Vanuatu on a flight from New Caledonia on 22 October 2021 and were confirmed to have active COVID-19 infections are now both fully recovered. One person was released from the isolation ward at Vila Central Hospital on 26 November after receiving medical clearance. The second person remained in isolation for additional medical assessment but received medical clearance and was released on 3 December 2021.

RELEASE FROM ISOLATION OF 1 REMAINING PERSON NOW RECOVERED FROM COVID-19

Two passengers who arrived to Vanuatu on a flight from New Caledonia on 22 October 2021 and were confirmed to have active COVID-19 infections are now both fully recovered. One person was released from the isolation ward at Vila Central Hospital on 26 November after receiving medical clearance. The second person remained in isolation for additional medical assessment but has now been classified as recovered from COVID-19 and has received medical clearance. The additional assessments confirmed that there is no longer active virus in their body and therefore they pose no risk of COVID-19 infection to anyone else. This person is therefore also discharged from isolation and can now safely join their family and community.

RELEASE FROM ISOLATION WARD OF 1 PERSON RECOVERED FROM COVID-19

Two people arrived to Vanuatu from New Caledonia on 22 October 2021 and were confirmed to have active COVID-19 infections. Medical assessment has confirmed that one person is no longer contagious and presents zero risk of transmitting COVID-19 to others since they no longer have the COVID-19 virus. This person is now classified as recovered from COVID-19 and therefore will be discharged from the isolation ward at Vila Central Hospital to safely join their family and community.
