Key achievements to prevent coronavirus -10 April 2020

At the end of the two week State of Emergency (that ended 9 April), Vanuatu is assured that it has no suspected and no confirmed cases of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19, a pandemic that has affected more than 200 countries in the world to date.

“I would like to reiterate that we currently have no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 in Vanuatu,” said Russel Tamata, Medical Focal Point of COVID-19. “And with each day that passes, we can be more and more assured of no cases. If, by chance, there is a case we now have the systems in place to detected, test and isolate the case”.

Quarantined returned citizens and residents cleared - 06 April 2020

The Vanuatu Ministry of Health has cleared all returned citizens and residents, arrivals from international flights, to go home after 14 days in quarantine at a hotel.

“The Ministry of Health confirms that the people in quarantine are cleared to return home and be reunited with families and friends,” said Len Tarivonda, Director of Public Health. “We appreciate that it has not been the easiest of times and thank these individuals and their families for their full cooperation to keep our country safe”.

Cyclone a closer threat for Vanuatu than COVID-19 - 06 April 2020

While the Ministry of Health affirms that to date there are no confirmed and no suspected cases of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in Vanuatu there is a closer threat within the country’s borders, category five Tropical Cyclone Harold.

COVID-19, a disease caused by a new coronavirus, spreads most easily from close contact with an infected person. Symptoms can include fever, coughing and sneezing, and breathing difficulties.

The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the public about the outbreak of novel Coronavirus affecting multiple countries in Asia and the USA. The Ministry of Health has developed a plan to prevent, detect and respond to any suspected cases of Novel Coronavirus infection.
