Ministry of Health confirms another death linked to COVID-19

The Ministry of Health today confirms another death linked to COVID-19 bringing the total deaths to date to four (4) deaths. The person is a 17-year-old with existing underlying health conditions.

  • On 04 March 2022, an active COVID-19 case was confirmed at Vila Central Hospital who had no travel history, indicating transmission at community level.
  • On 07 March 2022, Efate and Offshore Islands moved to Alert Level 3: Very High, due to large-scale community transmission. All provinces of Vanuatu are on Alert Level 3 given reports of cases or movement of contacts of cases in the six provinces of Vanuatu.
  • A total of 4915 confirmed cases have been reported since the beginning of 2022.
  • 130 new confirmed cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, including 124 on Efate island (Shefa province) and 6 on Santo island (Sanma province).

20,400 Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrive through COVAX for booster doses

Vanuatu welcomes the arrival of 20,400 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine supplied through the COVAX Facility .

This is the first lot of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines received by the country. Moderna would be the fourth vaccine to be used in Vanuatu, apart from AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and the single-shot Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccines.

  • On 04 March 2022, an active COVID-19 case was confirmed at Vila Central Hospital who had no travel history, indicating transmission at community level.
  • On 07 March 2022, Efate and Offshore Islands moved to Alert Level 3: Very High, due to large-scale community transmission. All provinces of Vanuatu are on Alert Level 3 given reports of cases or movement of contacts of cases in the six provinces of Vanuatu.
  • A total of 4713 confirmed cases have been reported since the beginning of 2022.
  • 189 new confirmed cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, including 143 on Efate island (Shefa province) and 46 on Santo island (Sanma province).
