Health Situation reports provide an update on the epidemiological situation and actions taken by the Ministry of Health and partners. These are issued regularly, and may be more frequent when there are rapid changes in the situation.
Two (2) confirmed active cases of COVID-19 were detected in one quarantine facility in Vanuatu on 06 March 2021. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases detected in Vanuatu since the beginning of the global pandemic to three (3).
The 2 COVID-19 patients have been transferred from the quarantine facility to the VCH isolation ward. They will remain in isolation until they are given health clearance by a Medical Officer.
None of the other passengers on the same flight have developed symptoms and their standard day 5 and day 11 tests were negative. All currently remain in quarantine and will be released after day 14 following medical clearance.
38 people supporting quarantine operations (airport, quarantine, health surveillance and laboratory staff) were swabbed and tested as a precautionary measure; all test results have been negative.
As per the COVID-19 Health Sector Preparedness and Response Plan, Vanuatu is currently in Scenario 2a (one or more confirmed cases in quarantine [border cases]).
